TESTIMONIALS

Artisan Mentoring offers interaction with the next best thing to in-person learning. Technicians and students get to ask questions about the details and tricks of the trade in the way that suits them. A technician can communicate via live video or live chat, so if you're not a great orator you can still ask a question.

Artisan Piano meetings have been a huge help because it goes beyond the standard classroom material making the same concepts more palatable, entertains, and they come from real world technicians who are all working and growing together. Also, the real life hacks that fix things when the standard methods just don't cut it are a huge help.

I'm a linguist and tend to think in those terms: the mentoring program has helped me learn to speak the language of piano technology. It's sometimes difficult to get a feel for how to think and speak about the material from an asynchronous online course, but being able to interact in real time with students and colleagues and instructors has improved my understanding and ability to work through sometimes complex information.

Artisan Mentoring has been a wonderful way to reinforce my piano technician training through tutorials, discussions, and question/answer sessions.  One of the greatest benefits has been the interactions with other technicians to discuss what they are working on or how they have been successful on troublesome repairs.

My wife is a classically trained pianist and skilled music teacher. We own a music school here in Alabama. We have 7 pianos there. Needless to say tuning those pianos twice a year can get very expensive. Plus with all our piano students there is a list growing for pianos needing love. It just seemed natural for me to learn how to regulate and tune. The course has been very informative and interesting. I have already learned so much more than I thought and I am already actively making calls to homes and about to change my first string. (Haven't broke one myself, knock on wood. Thank you far all that you do! BIG FAN

The mentoring is amazing, it has shown me how much detail and fine craftsmanship that is put into this instrument. You and David and the classes are absolutely amazing. You put everything in simple instructions so I can follow it. Which is not an easy feat. I get confused very easily. But not with you. I have a 1997 Yamaha Disklavier baby grand and a 1937 Becker Brothers upright. You had me at lesson one with the differences between the grand and upright actions. I have learned how to remove the actions and repair them to working condition and clean and repair them. I am so blessed to have your mentoring. It is so comforting knowing I am not alone in this pursuit.

Artisan Mentoring has given me the confidence to work on pianos that are not my own. I successfully tuned my sister’s and my mom’s pianos even when I couldn’t get mine to cooperate. With some of David’s feedback while he was doing the pitch raise and subsequent tuning, I’m finally getting my piano to a place where it sounds playable. I don’t think I’d be where I’m at right now if it wasn’t for the mentoring program. I’ve still got a lot of work to do before I can really start a business, but I’m a lot more confident and capable than I was even a few months ago.

The Artisan Mentoring program is much more; the social media resources and responsiveness of the instructors means there is always someone to answer your technical questions.  Plus, David focuses quite a bit on the business end of piano tuning, helping newcomers to navigate running a successful piano service operation.

I live in an area of the country where there are almost no piano technicians other than myself and my business partner (Victor). Artisan Mentoring allowed me to be part of a community of technicians that I can learn with and bounce ideas off of. It's also been such a privilege learning from an expert like David who is generous enough to teach about the craft and the business side of piano technology.

Artisan mentoring is a lifesaver! Passing an online piano technician course, or any course for that matter, is just the first step. Don't go it alone. You need mentors who are personally vested in your long-term success. That's Artisan Mentoring! They are not only highly skilled with a track record of proven success, but they listen, and help us for where we are in the profession. But most importantly, mentoring sessions are personable, relevant, interactive, and encouraging. It has become a new professional 'family' that motivates me to excel at this amazing craft.

Artisan mentoring has helped me get a grasp on several important topics. One of my favorite things is that it's inclusive to techs of every skill level no matter the topic, and I've felt very welcome into the community.

Artisan has provided me with an incredibly accessible outlet to a wealth of knowledge in the piano service sphere. In a world where competition, barriers to entry and education costs are higher than ever; it's very refreshing to find there are still true professionals and educators ready to share their craft- simply for the sake of preserving it. Thanks for all you guys do!
